We are happy to help you Seven years ago my family and I decided to move from California to Arizona. The reasons we decided to move are the top reasons that so many other people are also leaving CA.
Here are 6 reasons why people move from California to Arizona
COST OF LIVING
The reason we decided to move was because of the high cost of living in California. We were expecting our baby at the time and started to research buying a house in California. We quickly realized that we would only be able to afford what seemed like a shack for half a million dollars. Plus, it would be really far out in the boonies. Since that was not going to work for us we started to dream of what it would be like to live somewhere else.
For curiosity we started to look online at homes for sale in Arizona. My husband used to visit Arizona when his friends were going to school there and really liked Arizona and the idea of living there. We saw all these huge beautiful houses with yards and pools and they were within our price range! We were blown away by the amazing houses that were available. Completely different than the houses we could afford in CA.
That was the beginning of the idea of moving out of California. It's not only HOUSING that is expensive but it feels like EVERYTHING is more expensive in California. I joke and call it the sunshine tax for having such amazing weather throughout the year. But honestly I rather save money and not pay that sunshine tax! The high cost of living was evident for us as my husband had a great paying job yet it felt like we were living paycheck to paycheck. It seemed like we could never save up money. Which became extra scary once we were expecting our son. Just by moving to Arizona it felt like my husband got a pay raise as the state income tax is much lower than California's.
SAFETY
Our second reason for moving was to live in a safe & family oriented area.
As my husband and were dreaming of our new life we definitely made picking a safe & family oriented area another priority. We wanted to live somewhere our son could play outside in the neighborhood with his friends.
Living in Hollywood, CA did not offer that. Unfortunately the area had a lot homeless people and people walking around who looked like they were on drugs. That was definitely not the environment that we wanted to raise our family in. Living in a safe family oriented neighborhood was very important to us. And I imagine important to all families.
Living in Arizona, my son has the freedom to play outside all day with friends. And he does! It reminds me of when I grew up. I have so many cherished memories of playing outside all day until nighttime with my friends. I'm so happy that my son has that opportunity. We have been here for 7 years now and honestly I couldn't imagine our life anywhere else.
The area we live in Arizona is called Queen Creek it's a suburb located in the East Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area. If you're curious to learn more about Queen Creek check out my channel for my in depth videos on the town. It's such a charming town to live in with so many wonderful activities to enjoy.
Moving from a city life to the suburb life has been so nice! When we were living in Hollywood it was fun having amazing restaurants, clubs and theaters nearby. But now that we have a family our priorities have changed. Instead we want a slower pace of life in a safe family oriented area.
Something I love about Arizona is that when the weather cools down there are so many fun family events to attend. In October is when many of them start. For instance there are pumpkin patches all throughout Arizona. They are super fun to attend as there are corn mazes you can get lost in, hayrides. At Schnepf farms there is a train you can ride and in October it becomes a spooky train ride!
BETTER PUBLIC EDUCATION
One reason for us moving to Arizona is that the public schools here are much better than the public schools in California. Now I'm not saying this is the case for ALL of Arizona but there are certain school districts that their public education is really good here. For instance the Queen Creek School District is good, Chandler School District has some of the top public schools in all of Arizona. And the Gilbert School District is also really good for public schools.
I love that we have free top tier public education available for the kids here. There are really good private schools as well if that's what you prefer for your kids and there are good Charter schools here. The great thing about the Charter schools is that you don't have to do a lottery to get your kid into the school
WORKING REMOTELY
The fourth reason that we moved is that my husband works from home and we basically could live anywhere. He told me all he needs is an internet connection and cellphone service and we could live anywhere. He has been working from home for 20 years so he was lucky to have the remote working opportunity.
What I have noticed is once the Pandemic happened a lot of people started working remotely and ultimately their jobs have remained that way. Now that people are not tied to having to live close to their jobs many of them saw that as the opportunity to move out of state. Plus, with so many people working from home they have new new home needs. Such as a dedicated office space area.
CLOSE TO BIG CITIES
The fifth reason that we decided to move to Arizona is that the state is so close to California. It makes it an easy and short 7 hour drive to California. As I've met people who have moved here many shared the same idea. They got all the benefits of living in Arizona yet could easily go visit friends and family in California. I'm a beach girl so my family and I love being able to get to San Diego beach in 5 hours. Although now that we have been living in Arizona we have discovered the beach that a lot of people from Arizona enjoy..
Puerto Penasco also known as Rocky Point. Its only 4 hours drive and it's a popular beach in Mexico. Just make sure that if you go that everyone 16 and over has a passport. Kids can travel with birth certificates.
POLITICAL STATUS
Number 6 on the list. Last and probably the most controversial is that many people left California for political reasons. Many conservatives have grown tired of the far left political views in California and have decided to move to Arizona and other more conservative states. My family and I definitely got tired of the high taxes and all far left view points that California has.
Now that we have moved to Arizona we have learned so many have a variety of viewpoints so we just don't talk
politics as its not a huge driving force for us. We just like to be friends and connect with everyone.
It was fun hanging out with you and sharing with you the top reasons people are FLEEING California and heading over to Arizona.
